Daily Inspiration: August 4. Taking Back Control from the Ego’s Programming

Today, let us remember, that having been programmed by the ego, that it is now in most cases, our first responder. Being our first responder, do not be surprised or disappointed in yourself, if your first reaction to a brother, sister or situation, is some form of judgment. Instead, learn to see this judgment of self or others, as simply a symbol that the ego is currently in control of your thinking and mind. For example, when you ask yourself: “What do I want?” know that more than likely the ego will beat you to the answer and thus answer for you, and so you need to follow-up that question with another one: “What do I really want?” this will give your conscious mind the time to figure out what is truly in your best interest.    We ask the follow-up question, to make sure that it is we, not the ego, who is in control of our thinking. The first question is more of a reactive question, the second one is more of a proactive question. The ego would have us live a reactionary life, always protecting itself through our judgments of self or others. The ego does this, not to defend you, but to defend its mindset, for if it answers for you, and you believe that answer, then you will see the ego as useful, which then allows the ego’s mindset to survive through you. Today, let us practice proactively taking back control from the ego’s mindset. And so let’s take a very simple example: You may see what appears to be a delicious pie, and so you ask yourself “What do I want” and the ego quickly answers “I want to eat the pie.” Then you ask the second question: “What do I really want?” The answer may come to you as something like: “I really want to be and feel healthy and fit, and eating that pie is not really going to make me feel this way.” Then, having figured out what you really want, you will consciously choose not to eat that pie. It will be these daily small victories over your ego, that will further inspire and reinforce in you, that you can consciously choose to have a greater sense of physical, mental, and emotional control over your experience, and thus of the expression of the life you live.

The ego has already programmed us to believe that its mindset is the ‘proper’, ‘natural’, and ‘correct’ way of responding and behaving. Added to that, it has already programmed your family, friends, peers and society, to be and act according to its rules. You now, in many cases, have unconsciously accepted their beliefs as yours, and so now their beliefs are yours. The ego has already programmed into you that if person A acts this way, then he must be treated and reacted to, in A manner. If person B acts this way, then he must be treated and reacted to, in B manner. And so to almost every possible situation the ego already has set up within your mind a way to “properly” respond. Yet, what the ego does not tell you, is that this “proper” way of responding is for the ego’s benefit, not yours. Paying attention to this, you begin to notice, how ‘your’ first reaction to anyone or anything is really mostly the ego’s judgment centered programmed response, not yours. If you allow, unconscious of it as you may be, the ego to be answering for you, then you are unconsciously allowing the ego, to live your life for you. You will never feel truly peaceful, joyful or fulfilled when you are allowing the ego to live your life for you. Is it any wonder why so many people on this planet are not feeling peaceful, joyful or fulfilled, when it’s not really them living their lives? When you feel like a robot or zombie, just going through the motions, it is because the ego is living your life for you. To stop this mindset from controlling your life, first recall that it is your life to live. Second, remember, that if your actions and reactions are not supporting the life you want, then stop supporting the thoughts that support the ego’s mindset. The ego’s judgment centered mindset and programming is one where it acts and reacts with fear, chaos, confusion frustration, anxiousness, anger, resentment, regret, and revenge. When you are experiencing any of these emotions and energies, let them all become symbols that show you, that it is the ego that is reacting and living your life for you, and that the truth in you remains asleep. Have you not slept long enough? Our tolerance for pain may be quite high, but it is not without limit. There must come a time when you look deep into the mirror, stop acting and reacting as someone who you know you are not, and start being the person that you came here to be.

Today, remember that your true eternal essence is Love, and so when you are truly in control of your mind, your primary response to all your interactions and situations, will be a form, an extension and expression of Love. Today, when the ego answers the question “What do I want” first, stop and say to yourself: “Ok, that’s fine, that’s what the ego wants, but I’ve tried these ego centered responses before and they have never brought me the peace, love, hope and joy, that I want, and so let me now ask myself: “What do I really want.” What you really want, is to behave and react in such ways, that brings you, and because we are all One, all others, peace, love, hope and joy, and so let me figure out not what the ego wants, but what I, what my real-self really wants, and then let me do that. At first it might not appear natural to keep on correcting your own mind, to keep reminding yourself that the ego usually answers first, so take some extra moments to center yourself, you deserve such moments, and then ask yourself: “Is this what the ego wants, or is this what the love within me desires? Is this what ‘I’ want, or is this what I really want.” It is you who is real, not the ego. The ego is but a very limited false belief system within your mind, that has convince you that it is the real you. The ego is not the real you, it is simply a figment of your imagination, that once you recognize it for what it is, will no longer rule over your thoughts and life. It is you my friend, who must begin to discern and figure out the difference between your false-self and true-self, between a fear base judgmental mindset and the peace and love of God, between illusions and The Truth, between your programmed self and who you were created by God to be.

Today, let us practice becoming better at deciphering and discerning the difference between our programmed-self and our true-self. Our programmed-self is the ego or false self, that we have been taught to see as us. When the ego self is acting for us, it is living our life for us. Some symptoms and symbols that show you that the ego is in control of your mind are when you feel, act or react, with judgment, fear, chaos, confusion, frustration, anxiousness, anger, resentment, regret, and revenge. Some symptoms and symbols that show you that you, your true self, is actually in control of your thinking, are when you feel, act and react, with Love’s expressions such as those of compassion, forgiveness, hope, joy, peace and understanding. Do not put yourself or others down if you find that the ego has been living your life for you, instead understand what is going on, use free will to take back control of your own mind, and once agin begin to feel, act and react, through Love, as your Creator’s creation, as who you were meant to be.

Like you talked about, James, I don’t trust my first reaction anymore either. I watch watch my first reaction is and now I’m kind of entertained by it. Hahaha! My first reaction keeps me humble. You suggest that we ask ourselves the second question, ” what do I really want?” And then listen from your heart space. It takes a lot of practice and I don’t always make my mark. My constant desire, though, is to know more of my God self. Thank you for your daily posts, they are SO needed right now.

Thank you Shelly for your comment. Yes, it is useful not to judge our usual ego centered first reaction, but simply to be entertained by it, realize that if it does not come from a place of love, that it is not truly us, forgive it and ourselves for even thinking it, let it go in peace, then consciously align with and thus reinforce who we truly are, our loving nature. Peace. JBC

Very well exposed, as to identify when the ego is speaking to you, and when your true self takes control.
