Daily Inspiration: March 2. Quieting Our Internal Critic
There is no one that you will communicate with more, and spend more time of your day with, then you will with yourself. There is no bigger critic of ourselves, than ourselves. Today, as we practice quieting our inner critic, the outside world will begin to feel like a less critical place. For the outside world is simply a reflection of the thoughts that we support as real within our own minds, and so the less time we spend critiquing ourselves, the less critical this world will appear. The less critical the world appears, the more at peace and secure we will feel in it. The more at peace and secure we feel, the more confident we will be, and thus the less others or even or own criticism will affect us. Putting yourself down in any way, shape or form, is a sign that you are placing your trust in the ego’s will over your highest will. God’s will and your highest will are One, whenever you are at peace in your life, know that you are consciously or unconsciously trusting in God’s will for you. When you are not at peace in your life, this is not a symbol that you are bad or unwise, but a symbol that you are placing your trust in the ego’s will for you, where it does not belong. The good news here is, that your perception of the life you are living, your peace or lack of it, is not a function of what is happening in your life, but of where you have placed and are placing your trust. Since it’s you who, consciously or not, place your trust where you want, it is you who also has the power to change whose guidance you are following, and thus the level of peace that you experience. Today, when the internal critic in you begins to once again rise, remember, that you have been gifted free will, and so you can choose to end your support for your internal critic. You end your support for your internal critic, by choosing to no longer place your time, focus or energy, on it. The less you support your internal critic, the less power it has to control your experience.
Today, let us continue to see and understand, how much power we have over the world that we are experiencing. Let us understand that how we are perceiving this world, is not a function of what is happening in it, but of what thoughts our minds focus their time and energy on supporting as real. A critical mind results, from you placing your time, focus and energy, on judgment filled critical thoughts. A peaceful mind results, from you placing your time, focus and energy, on thoughts that bring you, others and this world, peace. A more critical mind will see and experience a more critical world, and in turn, what then appears to be a more critical world will then support, and thus strengthen and reinforce, the “reality” of the critical mind. Equally so, a more peaceful mind, will see and experience a more peaceful world, and in turn, a more peaceful world will support and thus strengthen and reinforce, the reality of the peaceful mind. And so you see, the reality we see outside of ourselves, is shaped by what we are holding unto as real within our minds, then that vision, the world that we think we see, will then support that thinking within our minds, as true. The world itself will not change, until your thoughts and beliefs about yourself changes. There is not one thought, nor critique, that can remain active and growing within your mind, without your support and encouragement. If you make the conscious choice to stop supporting thoughts that are critical of yourself and others, then critical and judgment filled thoughts will have no fertile ground to grow in. It will be in such an environment, where you will begin to notice the power that you have, in every moment, to either lift yourself up or bring yourself down.
Today, let us no longer support the thinking, and thus the world, that we no longer desire to see or experience. Let us make the conscious decision to stop our internal critic, and by doing so spend less and less time in what appears to be a critical and judgmental world. Today, let us look to reverse the ego’s critical mindset, by doing the opposite of what it always demands. Let us instead look within, and proactively practice consciously choosing to be more kind, respectful, gentle, forgiving and supportive of ourselves. We once were, consciously or not, our biggest critic, but now we make the conscious choice to become our greatest supporter. The more we support ourselves, the more we are loving, kind, respectful, gentle, forgiving and non-judgmental towards ourselves, the stronger and more confident we will become. The more strong and confident we become, and the less time, focus and energy, our internal critic receives, the more our internal critic begins to wither away, back into the nothingness from which it came. When you realize that your criticism or peace, joy or sorrow, are not a function of this world’s physical expressions, but of the thoughts that you entertain and support as real within your mind, it is then that the outside world will begin to lose its grip and power over you. Imagine, no longer being held a captive to the whims of this world. Imagine, no longer needing this world or those in it to act a certain way for you to experience a peaceful and joyful life. Imagine, the power you will hold, and the certainty you would feel, when you get that nothing that is outside of you, has ultimate power over you, over the thoughts that you yourself choose to think and support. Such a world is available to you right now, simply make the conscious decision to choose it, and you will have it and live it.
Today, let us recall that the thoughts we choose to think, support and thus reinforce, will show us whose guidance we are following. God’s guidance will bring our minds into alignment with peace, compassion and understanding. The ego’s guidance will bring our minds into alignment with judgment, criticism and confusion. Thanks to free will, that choice of whose guidance we follow, is always up to us. Today, let us begin to end the power, that we once simply surrendered to the critical mind. Having a mind that is constantly criticizing itself does not make us a bad or unwise person, it is very simply a symbol that we are allowing the ego to think for us. We, as Love’s creations, when our minds are aligned with our true nature, the mind is at peace with itself, compassionate and understanding. And so today, let us work on taking back control of our own minds from the ego. We do so by only supporting thoughts that support our loving nature, and by no longer supporting judgmental and critical thoughts that allow the ego to rule over us.
