Daily Inspiration: March 2. Quieting Our Internal Critic

There is no one who will communicate more with you during your day, than yourself. There is no bigger critic of ourselves, than ourselves. Today, as we practice quieting our inner critic, the outer world will begin to feel like a less critical place. The outside world is simply a reflection of our inner thoughts. The less time we spend criticizing and critiquing ourselves, the less critical this world will appear to be. The less critical the world appears to be, the more at peace and secure we will feel in it. The more at peace and secure we feel, the more confident we become, and thus the less others or even or own criticism will affect us. Putting yourself down in any way, shape or form, is a sign that you are viewing yourself through the ego’s mindset. The ego compares and judges because that is how it survives. God desires all His children to be at peace, and by now we must know that the ego’s roads do not have peace as its destination. When you are not at peace in your life, this is not a symbol that you are bad, unwise or unworthy of peace. It is a symbol that you are placing your trust in the ego’s will for you, where it does not belong. The good news here is that your perception of the life you are living, your peace or lack of it, is not a function of what is happening in your life. It is a function of where you have placed your trust. It is you who can now consciously choose to place your trust where you want it. It is you who also has the power to change whose guidance you are following. It is you who has control over your levels of peace or pain. Today, when the internal critic in you begins to once again rise, remember that you have free will, and stop supporting it. You end your support for your internal critic, by choosing to no longer place your time, focus or energy, on it. The less you support your internal critic, the less power and control it will have over you.

Today, let us see and understand how much power we have over the world that we are experiencing. Let us understand that how we are seeing this world is not a function of what is happening in it, but of the thoughts our minds focus their time and energy on. A critical mind results from you placing your time, focus and energy, on judgment filled critical thoughts. A peaceful mind results from you placing your time, focus and energy on non-judgmental thoughts that bring you, others and this world a sense of comfort, safety, love and peace. A more critical mind will see and experience a more critical world. In turn, a more critical world will then support and thus strengthen and reinforce, the “reality” of the critical mind. Equally so, a more peaceful mind, will see and experience a more peaceful world. In turn, a more peaceful world will then support and thus strengthen and reinforce, the reality of the peaceful mind. As you see, the reality we see outside of ourselves, is shaped by what we are holding unto as real within our minds. That vision of the world we think we see, will then support that the thinking within our minds is true. The world itself will not change, until your thoughts and beliefs about yourself changes. This is good news, because there is not one thought or critique that can remain active and growing within your mind, without your support and encouragement. If you stop supporting thoughts that are critical of yourself and others, then critical and judgment filled thoughts will have no fertile ground to grow. It will be in such an environment where you will begin to notice, the power that you have in every moment, to either lift yourself up or take yourself down.

Today, let us no longer support the thoughts and thinking that we no longer desire to see or experience in this world. Let us stop our internal critic, and by doing so, spend less and less time in what appears to be a critical and judgmental world. Let us look to reverse the ego’s critical mindset by doing the opposite of what it demands. Let us look within and proactively practice choosing to be more kind, respectful, gentle, forgiving and supportive of ourselves. We once were our biggest critic, but now we make the conscious decision to become our greatest supporter. The more we support ourselves, the more we are loving, kind, respectful, gentle, forgiving and non-judgmental, the stronger and more confident we become. The stronger and more confident we become, and the less time, focus and energy, our internal critic receives. This new mindset begins to wither away at the power of the ego, turning it back into the nothingness from which it came. Now you realize that your criticism or peace, joy or sorrow, are not a function of this world’s physical expressions, but of the thoughts that you use to define the world you see. It is when you understand this, that the outside world will begin to lose its grip and power over you. Imagine, no longer being held a captive to the whims of this world. Imagine, no longer needing this world or those in it to act a certain way in order for you to experience a peaceful and joyful life. Imagine, the power you will hold, and the certainty you would feel, when you realize that nothing that is outside of you, has power over you. Nothing outside of you has power over the thoughts that you yourself choose to think. A world that is under your control, is available to you right now. Simply make the conscious decision to choose the thoughts that will help you define the world that you would like to see and experience, and you will have it.

Today, let us recall that the thoughts we choose to think, support and thus reinforce will show us whose guidance we are following. God’s guidance will bring our minds into alignment with the state of non-judgment and peace. The ego’s guidance will bring our minds into alignment with a judgmental and critical mindset. Having free will, we can in each moment, choose whose guidance to follow. Today, let us end the power that we once surrendered to the critical mind. Having a judgmental and critical mind does not make us a bad or unwise. It is simply a symbol that we are allowing the ego to think for us. As Love’s creations, our minds are in their natural state when they are focus on being loving and at peace. Today, let us take back control of our minds from the ego by only supporting our loving thoughts as true. Then let us forgive, overlook or let go, of all other thoughts that are not supportive of the world we want to see and experience.

I am on a high plant-based diet in order to get enough calcium into my system to dealwith osteoporosis. Yesterday, when I was going to the washroom I heard myself say to myself, “Oh, you stupid idiot…all you do is go to the bathroom.” I could not believe I had said that to myself. Don’t know where it comes from but we are our inner voice and perceptions. It was very hard to hear that. I really like your columns. They are very helpful

Thank you Nancy for your comment.

When that occurs, and it occurs more often then people think, very simply say this to yourself “That is a lie, I am and will always be God’s prefect loving creation.” Then visualize and fill yourself and your surroundings with God’s loving white light.

Any and every time such a type of negative voice pops up in your head, stop it immediately and correct it. You control your thoughts, your thoughts do not control you. Then thank it and yourself for helping you practice and thus reinforce within, that indeed it is you who control your thoughts. It is you that can stop negative thinking right away. It is you who can shift the focus of your moments, and thus your days and life.
